The Global Disinformation Lab at UT is bringing together a group of students to explore the global dimensions of misinformation and disinformation. We are connecting graduate and undergraduate students with opportunities to work on real research projects (several that could produce academic articles).
Here are the key points:
- Research Experience - All members of GDIL work on one of our 6 project teams. You will contribute to real, multidisciplinary research projects. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and develop new skills. At the end of the semester you will be listed on our page of student researchers and eligible for GDIL student project funding. Continuing researchers are also eligible to become a paid Project Lead. This semester we are also kicking off our effort to collect global policy responses to misinformation and disinformation.
- New Perspectives - In our weekly meetings you will hear researchers and practitioners explore the global dimensions of disinformation and misinformation.
- Practical Research Skills - GDIL offers research skills workshops after each weekly meeting. Attend these sessions and you will receive a digital certificate. Spring workshops will include: Basics of Network Analysis, APIs for Research, Exploratory Data Analysis in Tableau, Python Basics, Web Scraping, Advanced Search, and more.
- Community - You will join a community of nerds/scholars who are committed to cultivating better conversations about disinformation and misinformation. We communicate with Slack and we use that space to stay up-to-date and build culture. Our student opportunities channel is the best place on campus to find out about internships, job opportunities, and educational experiences related to our topic.
Students can sign up here: https://gdil.org/become-a-student-researcher/
Meetings are on Fridays at 2:30pm. Our first informational meeting will be over Zoom this Friday.
