Meet Ambassador Luis Arreaga and Foreign Service Officer Melania Arreaga, father and daughter with over five decades of combined experience in the Foreign Service. Ambassador Arreaga came to the United States from Guatemala at the age of 18. He just completed his assignment as U.S. ambassador to Guatemala, having previously served as U.S. ambassador to Iceland, and in multiple other senior positions in the U.S. Department of State. Melania joined the Foreign Service in 2010 and is currently in language training for her onward assignment in Tunisia, where she will manage the Director of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement office. Melania also served in Estonia, the United Arab Emirates, and India. In 2019, Melania was nominated for the GSO of the Year Global Award and received a Superior Honor Award in 2020.
